Vietnamese Hair Weave: Everything You Need to Know

Content
Vietnamese hair weave is human hair from Vietnamese donors, lined up and stitched into a weft: a long strip you sew onto braids, cut to fit a wig cap, or stack row by row for a full head. Most buyers just call it "bundles." The hair is usually thick per strand and dark, straight to slightly wavy, which is why stylists like it for sew-ins and wig makers like it for custom units. But the weft matters as much as the hair on it, and that's where a lot of bad orders go wrong.
"Vietnamese" tells you where the donors live. It says nothing about how the hair was handled afterward. On the wider market, something sold under that name can be unprocessed hair from one donor, or hair that's been mixed, steamed into a pattern or colored. Treat the label as the start of your questions, not the answer.
Colored wefts (613 blonde, ombre, fashion shades) have been bleached or dyed, which means they aren't raw or virgin hair anymore. That's why we list colored weave as its own range.
That makes it a different default, not a better one for every client. If you're weighing origins, we've covered how Vietnamese hair compares with Indian and Brazilian hair separately. The bigger lever is who makes the weft. A factory that sews its own can tell you how a bundle was sorted, stitched and checked. A reseller three steps removed usually can't.
Letter grades (10A, 12A and up) are each seller's own label, and no industry body defines them, so don't pay extra for a letter. Look at the ends instead. Thin, wispy ends mean the short hairs were left in (single drawn), and fuller ends cost more. Then wash one bundle and let it air dry. Good hair dries back to its own texture, with nothing slick left on it.
The stitching should be even and tight, with no loose thread, and the hair should sit evenly along a flat weft. Tug the seam lightly. A few loose hairs is normal. Then cut a short piece off and tug again, because a seam that unravels at the cut will shed into your client's sew-in.
A seller who won't send a sample bundle isn't worth a first order.
Wash routines and products are in our guide on caring for a human hair weave.
All our wefts are machine-sewn. We don't make hand-tied wefts. You choose the seam. A single weft is very thin, so the hair is spread along a longer strip. A double weft is stitched heavier, thick and solid, so the same hair sits on a shorter strip. Either way a bundle weighs 100 g, give or take a gram, and our bundles are double drawn. Lengths run from 16 to 32 inches (41 to 81 cm), in straight, body wave and deep wave.
The minimum bundle order is 300 g, or three bundles. For a sample, you can buy one bundle at the exact length and texture you're planning to stock; it's charged at retail, plus shipping. Production takes about two days. US orders ship by UPS, DHL, FedEx, EMS or a forwarding agent and usually land in two to four days. Want to see the hair before you pay? Ask for a live video call and we'll hold up the actual bundles.
What Is Vietnamese Hair Weave?
A weave is the strip, not the hairstyle. Loose hair is lined up root to tip and machine-stitched along one edge. That stitched edge is the weft, and a rolled-up length of it is a bundle. A stylist sews it to cornrows or a net (hence "sew-in"), and a wig maker cuts it into rows for a cap. Sellers also say "weft hair" for the same thing; our weft hair extensions post goes deeper on that term."Vietnamese" tells you where the donors live. Types of Vietnamese Hair Weave
Texture is the first decision. Our full weave hair range covers all three.Straight weave
Straight is what most Vietnamese donors grow naturally, anywhere from bone straight to straight with slight movement. So it's the easiest texture to find unprocessed and in long lengths, and it's the usual base for custom color. If you want the plain, uncolored version, start with our natural black hair weave.Colored wefts (613 blonde, ombre, fashion shades) have been bleached or dyed, which means they aren't raw or virgin hair anymore. That's why we list colored weave as its own range.
Body wave weave
Body wave is a loose S-shaped wave, somewhere between straight and curly. Ours is hair that grew that way: we pick naturally wavy donor hair instead of steaming a pattern in, so the wave shifts a little from one bundle to the next. You can see the range on our body wavy hair page. Plenty of body wave on the market is steam-set and can relax after a few washes, so ask any seller straight out whether the pattern is natural.Deep wave weave
Deep wave is tighter and more defined than body wave, with a rounder bounce that sits close to curly. Ours is natural too, picked from donor hair that grew that way, not steamed. Because the pattern is tighter, two bundles of the same length can curl differently. Our deep wavy hair is listed with the rest of the wave range. Before a full run, ask for photos or a live video of the exact bundle you'll get.Why Choose Vietnamese Hair Weave?
Vietnamese donor hair is thick per strand and usually natural black to dark brown. It blends easily into dark natural hair, and because it hasn't been treated, it lifts more predictably when you color it. How light it'll go still depends on the donor's starting shade.
How to Choose Vietnamese Hair Weave
Hair quality
Start with what was done to the hair. At Hair Vietnam, raw means one donor: it all comes off one person's head and nothing else gets mixed in. Our virgin hair blends two or three matched raw ponytails. We don't put either one through chemicals or steam. Remy is a separate word. It only means the cuticles all point root to tip, so the hair tangles less, and on its own it tells you nothing about processing.Letter grades (10A, 12A and up) are each seller's own label, and no industry body defines them, so don't pay extra for a letter. Look at the ends instead. Thin, wispy ends mean the short hairs were left in (single drawn), and fuller ends cost more. Then wash one bundle and let it air dry. Good hair dries back to its own texture, with nothing slick left on it.
Length and texture
Length drives price, because fewer donors grow hair that long. Measure a bundle straight, not stretched. Wavy hair springs up when it's worn, so a 24 inch (61 cm) body wave hangs noticeably shorter than a 24 inch straight bundle. Say you're launching a line with 16, 18 and 20 inch straight: get one sample in each of those exact lengths before you order the run.

Weft construction
Look at the seam, because that's where weaves fail. Most wefts are machine-sewn, which is strong and flat enough for sew-ins. Hand-tied wefts are thinner and lie flatter, but they come apart if you cut them. Some machine wefts carry a second stitched line, which holds better when you cut to fit.

The stitching should be even and tight, with no loose thread, and the hair should sit evenly along a flat weft. Tug the seam lightly. A few loose hairs is normal. Then cut a short piece off and tug again, because a seam that unravels at the cut will shed into your client's sew-in.

What to Look for When Buying Vietnamese Hair Weave for Sale
Photos won't tell you whether hair is raw, steamed or mixed. A sample bundle and a few written questions will. This is the list we'd run before a first order.| Check | How | Red flag |
| Weight | Weigh the bundle on your own scale | Reads well under the stated weight |
| Processing | Ask in writing: steamed, colored, acid-washed or mixed at any stage? | Vague answers, or "raw" on every texture and color |
| Ends | Spread the hair and look at the tips | Thin, see-through ends on long lengths |
| Weft | Tug the seam, then cut a short piece and tug again | Shedding at the cut, loose thread |
| Variation | Ask how much color and wave vary between batches | "Every bundle matches perfectly" |
| Returns | Ask what's covered and for how long | No written policy |

How to Care for Vietnamese Hair Weave
Hair on a weft gets no oil from a scalp, so the ends dry out faster than your own hair. The weft itself needs the most care, though. Never brush or pull at the seam; hold the hair just below it and detangle from the ends up. If you've cut a machine weft to fit, seal the cut end or use a double-stitched weft, or it'll keep shedding. And on a sew-in, dry the braids underneath completely after every wash, because damp braids under a weave can smell and mildew.Wash routines and products are in our guide on caring for a human hair weave.
Vietnamese Hair Weave at Hair Vietnam
Here's where we stand. Every weft we sell starts as raw hair, the same as our bulk hair, and none of it sees chemicals or steam. We sort, wash and sew it ourselves at our factory in Dong Tho, Yen Phong, Bac Ninh, Vietnam, and nothing is sent out to another workshop. Quality checks run at each stage. All our wefts are machine-sewn. We don't make hand-tied wefts. You choose the seam. A single weft is very thin, so the hair is spread along a longer strip.
